Prime minister Hichem Mechichi delivered a speech on Monday, July 19, 2021, to convey his greetings to Tunisians on the occasion of Eid Adha and to evaluate the health and political situation in the country.
“Tunisian families are going through a hard time. Some have lost loved ones, others are scared of losing them. When we took power in September, we knew it was a hard job because we don’t belong to any party. On the opposite, some parties utilise all means, even illegitimate ones, to strike this government and denigrate it, even if the price is Tunisia ”. He said.
“But we took accountability by declining populism that would have earned us points and fake popularity. We have assumed our responsibilities, and we will do so again despite the shortage of resources and the attacks we are subjected to ”, he pointed out.
Mr Mechichi further said: “We are all aware of the tough economic situation in the nation, even before the pandemic. This is a situation that we handle on a regular basis. Our single concern is to save the lives of Tunisians, protect jobs and secure the sustainability of the state. It is not an easy task in today’s environment, nevertheless, it is not impossible. We have the ultimate belief that we will surmount this crisis. Tunisia has gone through other more disturbing crises, but has come out on its feet “.
Mechichi concluded: “We are following Habib Bourguiba’s vaccination strategy which meant that no Tunisian remained without a vaccine.
