Tunisia-Hossam Touiti: “Ministry of Commerce developed program to control prices and fight monopoly during Ramadan” [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique on Thursday, February 22, 2024, the Director of Competition and Economic Research at the Ministry of Commerce Houssam Touiti, revealed that the Ministry has initiated a program aimed at stabilizing prices during Ramadan. This strategy implicates executing automatic discounts by professionals in partnership with manufacturers of certain goods to introduce promotional activities and exceptional offers for Tunisian citizens.

Similarly, Touiti indicated that the Ministry plans to tackle the issue of rising prices by setting caps on the prices of numerous items and regulating maximum profit margins. This measure is mainly focused on products expected to experience high demand during Ramadan. Further, the Ministry plans to set direct sale points from producers to consumers across various regions, enhancing the range of options available to shoppers and facilitating access to affordable goods.
