Tunisia-HPR Bureau suggests set of measures to combat coronavirus

Members of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Bureau said there is a need to commit to the decisions of the government to hedge against the Covid-19.

They also laid emphasis on the need to show solidarity and mutual help and provide the necessary support to deprived categories, they said in a statement released Monday.

Based on some recommendations and proposals put forward by its members, the HPR Bureau called for the urgent examination of the situation and the adoption of necessary measures, such as:

– Prohibiting unnecessary meetings and gatherings.

– Urging the government to negotiate a rescheduling of its debt so as to inject it as investments to mitigate the impact of the crisis.

– Declaring the health sector an absolute priority, declaring a health emergency, promoting available human and material resources needed to counter this pandemic (new graduates, volunteers, the private healthcare sector, etc).

– Allocating supplementary funding to the Health Ministry and further boosting social measures.

– Taking necessary measures to ensure supply in basic products, increase pasta and grain quotas for manufacturers and bakeries and sanction speculators.

– Mobilising financial resources through domestic and foreign donations, in addition to support from Tunisia’s friends.

– Adopting financial, economic and social measures for service providers and workforce affected by the closure and precautionary measures.

– Taking necessary measures to deal with crowding in public transport means.
