Like every October 15, Tunisia celebrates the anniversary of the evacuation. On this occasion, the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, went to Bizerte this Thursday to preside over the ceremony commemorating this celebration.
However, the visit was different this year. Responding to the call of Internet users, Saied visited several neighbourhoods in the city of Bizerte, to observe the deterioration of infrastructure.
Indeed, a campaign had been launched for days, urging the head of state to change his official itinerary, prepared and cleaned in advance, and to take other routes through the city to check the state of the premises.
For days, posts on the Presidency’s Facebook page had been bombarded with comments, where hundreds of citizens called on Kais Saied to discover the other side of Bizerte.
Responding present, Kais Saied ordered his convoy to take alternative routes away from the roads prepared for its passage. When he met him, residents criticized the region’s infrastructure, the blocked projects, the cost of living and the high unemployment rate.
