Tunisia-Including dividing the country into counties ,President of the Republic issues 5 decisions to Curb the spread of COVID-19

Following the meeting chaired by the president of the republic Kaïs Saïed in the attendance of prime minister Hichem Mechichi, many ministers, including the ministers of Health and Defense, the Governor of the Central Bank and the Director-General of the Institute Pasteur, a set of measures was declared late in the evening of Monday, July 5, 2021.

These measures are as follows:

  • Increase diplomatic effort to quickly bring vaccines to Tunisia
  • Divide the country into counties, so that each comprises at least two governorates and this according to the percentage of cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants during the last 14 days
  • Establishment of a work team formed of armed forces, security and health personnel, under the supervision of the Director-General of Military Health, in order to enhance vaccination operations
  • Medical and paramedical personnel, having earned their diploma during the last three years, are called upon to answer to the national service. Those affected should contact the nearest regional centres for their mobilization
  • Launch of the distribution of field teams in priority regions in terms of the spread of infection, to begin vaccination operations. This action will begin in Tataouine Governorate, given that the region is undergoing a large spread of the pandemic. In addition, the order of priorities of the regions will be reviewed according to the degree of spread of the virus.
