Tunisia – Increase in prices of 320 locally produced medicines

President of the National Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry, Tarek Hammami, reported a price increase which affects 320 types of locally manufactured medicines. This increase ranges between 320 and 2,000 millimes per box.

Hammami clarified, during his intervention on private radio, that this increase includes medicines whose prices vary between 5 and 10 dinars, emphasising that it is “an increase studied and agreed in advance with the ministries of Health and Commerce”. »

He estimated that an increase in the prices of these medications “is equal to a small adjustment between maintaining the presence of drugs on the market and the conservation of a sector as a whole which provides great services to citizens…”.

Hammami revealed that many medicines whose prices were less than 10 dinars, and which have disappeared from pharmacies, will return to the market thanks to this increase.

He stressed that the goal is not an increase, but rather maintaining the profitability of the pharmaceutical industry sector, as he said, pointing out that the last increase including locally manufactured medicines dates back to June 2021.

He added, in the same context, that the prices of many types of medications have not been revised for a period varying between 5 and 7 years, according to him.

Hammami mentioned the increase in prices of 280 types of medicines, approved last February.

This increase concerned medicines whose price was less than 5 dinars, even if the maximum did not exceed 1 dinar and 500 millimes.
