Tunisia-Judicial Council warns against pressure on its disciplinary decisions

The Judicial Justice Council declared on July 2, 2021, that it held a session yesterday on the disciplinary file of Judge Bechir Akremi and chose to defer the decision on this file to July 12.

According to the same source, this decision was exerted due to “correspondence” addressed to the Inspector General, commanding the data and proof on which his report was based in light of the answers and defences offered by judge Béchir Akremi.

It additionally warned all parties about the risk of pressure and influence on the Council with regard to the disciplinary and professional career of judges, as it impairs the independence of the Supreme Judicial Council and guarantees given to judges under the Constitution and the law.

Likewise, the Council emphasised that it is the instigator of the opening of the files without the interference of any other party and this by trusting to the Public prosecution of the Court of First Instance of Tunis the content of the leaks of alleged offences connected to the cases of the two martyrs Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi and suspected crimes linked to cases of terrorism and financial corruption.

It also asserted that it reached the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Justice to give him the report of the inquiries into all the complaints initiated against the two magistrates Bechir Akremi and Taieb Rached,  November 24 2020.

The Council insisted on explaining its responsibility for the fate of cases within the framework of the law.
