Tunisia-Kairouan: Seizure of 25 tonnes of contraband fish

Following the availability of information that an individual planned to smuggle an enormous quantity of fish in  ​​Sidi Amor Bouhajla in Kairouan, a patrol of the Customs Guard Division in Kairouan seized, around 2 a.m., a truck packed with a large quantity of “tuna” fish supplied for industrialization in the process of unclogging its contents on board a light truck in the middle of the street.

As the patrol approached, the driver of the van escaped while the driver of the truck was imprisoned. The latter revealed that he transports these quantities of fish from a company specializing in the manufacture of canned products, from the Sahel region to one of its branches in a city in southern Tunisia. A report was drawn up with the seizure of 25 tonnes of “tuna”. The value of the goods seized was assessed at 375 thousand dinars.
