Tunisia-Kais Saïed rules out holding early elections in 3 months

During a meeting held in the late hour of Thursday, March 31, 2022 with prime minister Najla Bouden and the Minister of Communication Technologies, Kais Saïed, confirmed that Tunisia will not organize legislative elections within three months. “Those who dream of the application of Article 89 of the Constitution are deceiving themselves,” he said. It should be remarked that this article provides for the organization of new legislative elections within a period of at least forty-five days and not surpassing ninety days in the event of the dissolution of the house of representatives of the People by the President of the Republic. Saied has previously revealed that he will form a committee to work on a new constitution, which he will put to a referendum in July before holding legislative elections in December.
