Tunisia-Kaïs Saïed visits cultural institutions in Tunis

President of the republic, Kaïs Saïed, made an unanticipated tour of diverse cultural landmarks and libraries within the historic medina of Tunis, stressing his administration’s dedication to heritage preservation. His visit started at the Association for the Safeguarding of the Medina of Tunis, where he engaged in talks about the critical role played by the city’s municipality and the association in conserving Tunis’s historic monuments.

Emphasizing the significance of maintaining cultural institutions under national stewardship, President Saïed toured the El Khaldounia library, the original site of the National Library, and the Diwan library. He expressed a clear stance that Tunisia’s heritage and history are invaluable national treasures, not commodities to be commercialized.

During a meeting at the government palace in Kasbah with Prime Minister Ahmed El Hashani, the discussion covered a range of topics, focusing on the cultural sector. President Saïed highlighted culture as an essential component of national identity and advocated for substantial investment to nurture this sector.

The president’s agenda likewise included a firm commitment to combating corruption across various domains, notably within the sports sector. He criticized the corrupt practices undermining electoral integrity, underscoring the necessity to safeguard democratic processes.

Concluding his series of visits at the National Institute of Marine Science and Technology, President Saïed identified and addressed several operational deficiencies. He underlined the urgency of modernizing the institute, highlighting its significance for Tunisia and the global community, especially as the institute approaches its centennial celebration in July.
