Former Ennahdha member Lotfi Zitoun statted on Thursday, February 11, 2021, that the answer to the political crisis is to amend the electoral law and operate early elections.
Speaking on the airwaves of Diwan FM, Zitoun suggested going through a referendum on the essence of the political regime to be used, insofar as this one is at the root of the political crisis, in particular, the disputes between the heads of the executive. “The regime which intends to help all parties has divided political power,” he said.
“The current regime is a partial presidential regime which prompts the president to try to extend his prerogatives under the pretence of reflecting the will of the people,” he said.
He suggests as a compromise solution that Kais Saied and Hichem Mechichi negotiate among themselves to agree on the ministers.
Lotfi Zitoun likewise considered that calls to protest neglect to solve social problems, particularly as demonstrators take to the streets to protest against power. In this sense, Zitoun proposes to resort to the referendum to give voice to the people.
