Tunisia-Mahdi Abdali: “Our old cities without plastic project seeks mainly to consolidate environmental awareness and culture.” [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, today, Wednesday, June 5, 2024, In charge of media, public relations, and communication at the Ministry of Environment, Mahdi Abdali, remarked that the Our Old Cities Without Plastic project is a project that falls within the framework of the Year of Cleanliness 2024, and it was launched from the old city in Tunis and seeks to value the urban heritage in Tunisia and preserve its privacy.

Abdali added that the spread of plastic in Tunisian forests and shores has led to the destruction of ecosystems. This prompted the Ministry of the Environment to launch a rally last year, which continues into the current year. The initiative includes activities in old cities across many governorates, such as Kef, Beja, Gafsa, Zaghouan, Sfax, and Sousse.

Our speaker furthermore pointed out that the primary goal of this project is to consolidate environmental awareness and culture, call on all stakeholders to bear responsibility in this regard, and spread the culture of environmental education among young individuals to build a generation aware of the significance of preserving the cleanliness of the ocean and heritage.
