Tunisia-Military buffer zone: Saied extends Marzouki’s decision

The President of the Republic Kais Saied has decided to extend the decree relating to the southern border area of the country, which is now a “military buffer zone” since August 29, 2013, for an additional year.

This presidential decree published in JORT on August 5, 2020, is an extension of the decision of the interim President of the Republic, Moncef Marzouki, who had provided for exceptional provisions applicable to a border buffer zone along the southern border of Tunisia with the Libya and Algeria. This area covers the entire Tunisian Sahara as delimited in 1989
