Tunisia-Minister of Defence Imed Hazgui welcomes EU Ambassador Patrice Bergamini

Defence Minister Imed Hazgui received European Union Ambassador to Tunisia, Patrice Bergamini, coming to take leave at the end of his mission to Tunisia.
The minister insisted on the importance of further developing cooperation with his department, within the framework of a vision based on the development-security articulation.
According to a statement by the Department of Defense, the meeting focused on seizing all opportunities for cooperation in the area of sustainable development, such as the contribution to the implementation of the project of the locality of El Mohdeth (delegation of El Faouar/Governorate of Kébili) and the installation of the military vocational training centre in Sidi Bouzid.
The Minister commended the European Union’s efforts to support Tunisia on several levels.
For his part, Bergamini stressed that the European Union is determined to help Tunisia in the fields of security, defence and development, particularly concerning sustainable development projects in southern Tunisia, “given their importance in giving the inhabitants a territorial foothold in their region”.
The two sides also discussed the security situation in the region. “The security situation in Libya has harmed the security and economic situation in Tunisia,” said Imed Hazgui.
In this connection, he reaffirmed the constants of Tunisian policy, which is based on the commitment to international legality and the rejection of all foreign interference in Libya.
Tunisia is in favour of a “Libyan-Libyan political solution” that would take into consideration the interests of the brotherly Libyan people, he said.
He added that Tunisia supports all international initiatives for a peaceful settlement of the Libyan crisis, to enable Libya to regain its stability, rebuild itself and build its institutions.
