Speaking to Tunisie Numérique,Director of Competition and Economic Research at the Ministry of Commerce Houssam Touiti, has disclosed a comprehensive plan to guarantee the Tunisian markets are well-stocked with a variety of goods during Ramadan. This initiative, developed in collaboration with various stakeholders, seeksto meet all consumer needs, with a focus on keeping an ample and diverse supply of fresh agricultural produce and vegetables at reasonable prices for Tunisian citizens.
Touiti underscored the expected availability of seasonal fruits such as strawberries and dates, as well as an increase in banana supplies to stabilize both availability and pricing. Likewise, he stressed the sufficient supply of poultry products, remarking significant production levels in the country. The projected supply includes about 12,000 tons of chicken and 6,500 tons of turkey meat, alongside about 155 million eggs, complemented by a reserve stock of around 23.5 million eggs to ensure demand is met.
Touiti also noted the Ministry’s efforts to provide almost a thousand tons of sugar per day and substantial quantities of grain products, olive oil, and fortified vegetable oil. These measures are planned to maintain a balance between supply and demand throughout Ramadan.
