The number of births outside marriage went up 8.2% in 2022 to 868, said the Ministry of Women, Family, Children and Seniors. It added that based on data from the network of child protection delegates, the number of alerts relating to birth out of wedlock is about 868 in 2022 against 802 cases in 2021. The Ministry of Women said it plans in 2023 to conduct a multidisciplinary study on births outside marriage, and the side effects on both women and children as well as the family and society. The study will focus on the social, economic and legal dimensions and the psychological impact on women and children and look at ways to deal with this phenomenon, says the ministry. (TAP) |
