A memorandum of co-operation (MoC) on the protection of seniors was approved on Wednesday by the Ministry of women, Family and Elderly Affairs, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The record was signed by Minister of Women, Family and Elderly Affairs Imen Zahwani Houimel, Director of UNFPA office in Tunis Rym Fayala and Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Tunisia Alissar Chaker.
The MoC intends to support the Ministry by providing technical support to the draft code of the elderly and the National Strategy for the Elderly.
That support will be built on a strategy that incorporates social, health, psychological, legal and institutional aspects, in the framework of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
The memorandum will further help execute a communication strategy to propagate the culture of elderly rights.
Minister Imen Zahwani Houimel emphasised the significance of this agreement which opens up new prospects for cooperation in the interest of the elderly.
She stated that the ultimate version of the draft code of the elderly is ready and will be submitted to the Cabinet meeting in the coming days for approval.
