Tunisia-Mliki: “Tunisia’s participation in Davos is an opportunity to strengthen relations with international donors” [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, political activist Hatem Maliki stressed that the participation of the Tunisian delegation in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, is a critical matter. Tunisia should not be absent from this traditional economic forum, which is regarded as the largest on the global level, bringing together a considerable number of officials from countries and global organizations. It serves as a platform to foster connections and contemplate the future of the global economy.

He underlined that the Davos Forum  presents a vital opportunity to strengthen ties with international donors and engage with different international officials, fostering essential discussions.

In the same context, our speaker underscored that the focus in Tunisia has expanded beyond the (IMF). While admitting that technical issues with the IMF are not insurmountable, he remarked that the door to dialogue remains open, with a willingness on the part of the Fund to negotiate with Tunisia.

Mliki voiced his opinion that the primary issue lies in determining the direction Tunisia aims to take, the methodology for completing it, and how desired outcomes, such as negotiations with the IMF or other countries, can be realized. He accentuated that the core issues are internal, with a lack of an action plan, clear vision, and a method for managing financial affairs and the current economic situation.

He additionally stressed that even if tangible results are not immediately obvious, attendance remains required until an agreement is reached on how to navigate the current financial situation, what the focus should be, and how to coordinate with international donors or partners from specific countries. According to him, in the absence of such an agreement, participation is still required.
