Economist Moez Joudi remarked on the latest decision of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) relating to the boost in the key interest rate.
“The BCT is responding to galloping inflation with a substantial increase in the key interest rate! 75 basis points! – During its meeting held on May 17, 2022, the Board of Directors of the BCT reviewed the latest economic and financial developments and decided to raise the key rate of the Central Bank of Tunisia by 75 basis points to 7.0 %, which would result in an upsurge in the deposit and marginal lending facility rates to 6.0% and 8.0% respectively. This decision will come into effect from May 18, 2022-” reads his post.
