Tunisia-Mohamed Hamdi: We will have a “decorative parliament”

Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Current Mohamed Hamdi stated today that the new Constitution gave the president of the republic Kais Saïed Head of State unlimited power.

He stated that Saïed enjoys the prerogatives of a “sultan” or an “emperor-” revealing that he is attempting to marginalize political parties via the new electoral law.

Hamdi cautioned against the decline in the number of MPs under the bardo dome pointing out the non-compliance with parity.

According to Hamdi, the concept of sponsorship has not been examined clarifying that it will complicate citizens’ participation in political life and promote clientelism and corruption.

”We will have a decorative parliament,” he said.

He added that the withdrawal of confidence will open the door to the blackmail of the deputies.
