Tunisia-Mohsen Nabti: “upcoming presidential elections will be one of most significant indicators of building political scene in Tunisia”

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, spokesperson for the Popular Movement, Mohsen Nabti noted on Friday, February 9, 2024, that Tunisia’s political landscape has been experiencing considerable changes since July 25, 2021. He said that establishing a new political equilibrium founded on solid and different foundations from the past would be a challenging task.

Nabti remarked that President Kais Saied has succeeded in marginalizing political parties from Tunisia’s political scene. This development has led to a transformative period, particularly given the perceived failures of the party system in the country, which he considers has contributed to multiple challenges. He stressed the necessity for profound changes in the economic framework and the establishment of a national economy devoid of corruption and familial influences.

Nabti also underscored the potential political consequences of these economic reforms. He pictured the emergence of populist parties that distance themselves from financial mafias and external influences. According to him, the reconstruction of Tunisia’s economy will play a vital role in shaping the country’s political future, indicating that Tunisia is still grappling with significant political turmoil.

He concluded his statement by pointing out that the upcoming presidential elections will serve as a crucial indicator of Tunisia’s future political landscape, emphasising their importance in the evolving political context.
