Tunisia-More than 291 thousand checks rejected at the end of September 2023

According to the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) report on “Payments in Figures in Tunisia” for the third quarter of 2023, 18.70 million checks were issued by the end of September 2023, totalling 89.8 billion dinars.

In the third quarter of 2023, the number of checks issued decreased by 0.7% compared to the third quarter of 2022, while the total amount increased by 3.6%.

In terms of transaction volume, check payments accounted for 38% of the telecompensated payment methods used. In terms of transaction value, they represented 53% of telecompensated payments.

It is noteworthy that the value of rejected checks represented 2.79% of the total value of checks issued. In terms of the number of checks, rejected ones accounted for 1.56% of the total checks issued, amounting to 191,097 checks.
