The Independent High Authority for the Elections (ISIE) is ready for any eventuality,” its President Nabil Baffoun told TAP on the sidelines of an international conference on administrative justice and electoral disputes held on Wednesday.
He, however, ruled out the possibility of holding early legislative elections.
“The results of the 2019 elections should command serious reflections on reviewing the electoral law in order to impart more efficiency on the electoral process,” he pointed out.
Baffoun also indicated that the ISIE is working on several recommendations in its report to be released in March, including the amendment of the electoral law.
Baffoun noted that 86% of the 2019 legislative candidate lists did not obtain seats in parliament and that the overall voter turnout went from 80% in 2011 down to 41% in 2019. “These are alarming rates”, he said.
