Tunisia-Nabil Karoui case: Iyadh Elloumi calls on Rached Ghannouchi to respect the independence of the judiciary

Speaking at a press conference held by the defence committee of Nabil Karoui, attorney and Qalb Tounes MP Iyadh Elloumi, stated that the party upholds the principle of the independence of the judiciary, asking the judges to rule far from any pressure and any bias.
He called on Qalb Tounes’s political allies, including  Ennahdha leader and  House speaker Rached Ghannouchi, to evade making declarations that could be misinterpreted.

The politician also criticised the press release of the Association of Tunisian Magistrates, which “encourage” the examining magistrate not to give in to pressure, concluding that judges must be the first to uphold the presumption of innocence and to secure a fair trial, independently of the person of the litigants.
