Tunisia- New legal proceedings against Jaouher Ben Mbarek and Ghazi Chaouachi

The Independent High Authority for Elections has started proceedings against Jaouher Ben Mbarek, following his remarks calling the 2022 elections a “farce coup d’état”. The Public Prosecutor transmitted Ben Mbarek’s file to the courts for statements broadcast on television.

Ghazi Chaouachi is also affected by a complaint from the Minister of Justice by Article 54.

The Minister of Justice, Leila Jaffal, reiterated to the parliament the significance of confidentiality and respect for ongoing legal procedures, refuting allegations of arbitrary imprisonments or investigations.
