Tunisia-New restrictions for passengers to Canada

Following new obligatory constraints put in place by Canadian authorities and targeting travellers to Canada, Tunisians wanting to go there will now be subjected to new measures, Tunisair announced in a press release.

The airline specified that all passengers (over 5 years old) must offer during check-in in Tunisia, a negative RT-PCR or RT-LAMP test, less than 72 hours old.

A traveller who has tested positive can further board given they have recovered from the coronavirus and have a positive test dated at least 14 days and at most maximum 90 days prior to the date of the flight.

Travellers who do not present a test result, within the test period, except they meet one of the rare exceptions, will be rejected.

Tunisair adds that Canadian authorities do not permit discretionary travel, including for tourist or recreational purposes and all travellers, with a few exceptions, will have to respect the compulsory isolation period of 14 days and will have to be able to show how they plan to comply during their stay in Canada.

Infringement of any direction given to access Canada is a violation of the Quarantine Act and may occur in up to six months in jail, a fine of $ 750,000, or both.

Tunisair emphasises in its statement that it is the passenger’s duty to guarantee they are cleared into Canada. If entry is denied, the passenger will be responsible for their own return.

In addition, all passengers need to wear masks all times and before boarding, they need to submit to a check of their health and temperature.

Tunisair adds that boarding to Canada will be denied to any passenger declining to answer questions about his state of health, not wearing a protective mask, showing symptoms of Covid-19 (fever, cough or respiratory problems), resisting to comply with the instructions of the check-in and boarding agent or a member of the crew.

In addition, it is necessary to provide data through ArrivalCAN before boarding the flight. ArriveCAN is available as a mobile application that can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store or by logging in online.

The traveller will need to present travel information and contact details, quarantine plan (unless spared under the conditions set out in the self-isolation decree) and self-assessment of symptoms of Covid-19. Upon arrival in Canada, a border services officer will check that passengers have submitted their information in digital form.

Travellers who do not submit the required information digitally before boarding their flight could face enforcement action, which can vary from a verbal warning to a fine of $ 1,000.
