Tunisia-Nissaf Ben Alaya calls for vigilance over COVID-19 infection among illegal migrants

Director of the National Observatory for New and Emerging Diseases Nissaf Ben Alaya warned over the lack of vigilance over the infiltration of new cases of coronavirus among a number of irregular migrants in Tunisia which may lead to the return of local infections.

In a statement to the TAP, she affirmed that the health ministry is operating in cooperation with the interior and foreign ministries to tighten up control of imported infections among irregular migrants who cross the Tunisian border clandestinely, remarking that the number of migrants from sub-Saharan Africa whose Coronavirus infection has been confirmed after crossing Tunisian soil has passed 20.

She reported that medical teams are conducting laboratory tests for all migrants who sneak through the border governorates, emphasising that these migrants are cared for and receiving health care, while those whose infection is confirmed, are subjected to 14 days of Quarantine in a centre until their recovery.
