Tunisia – Olfa Hamdi: I will close prisons when I am president!

The president of the Third Republic Party and candidate for the 2024 presidential election, Olfa Hamdi, stated this Thursday that “she has a set of measures that she will take when she becomes president of the republic ”.

She stated, during her appearance on a private radio station, that “she will pardon convicts in cases of drugs and bad checks, when she becomes President of the Republic”, adding: “Tunisians must be freed from prison…Tunisians are not criminals.” She added that “there are alternative penalties to incarceration, which are represented by agricultural work or work for the public good, in addition to the option of adopting the electronic bracelet”, voicing her “desire to close some prisons in Tunisia.

Concerning people imprisoned in cases of bad checks, she declared that the financial system in Tunisia considers the Tunisian people as fraudsters and punishes an entire people because of a small group of offenders”, emphasising that “this system must becoming inclusive of the Tunisian people as a whole.”

The candidate for the 2024-2029 presidential election affirmed that her program seeks to “save the Tunisian economy and ensure good and hope to Tunisians, as part of her candidacy for the presidential election”.
