The Free Destourien Party (PDL) deposited Friday at the parliament office, a bill amending Law No. 53 dated December 24, 2013 on the organization of transitional justice.
The PDL group proposes to institute the principle of prescription of legal actions to “put an end to the harassment of people prosecuted under transitional justice” and not to reopen cases already judged.
This project also recommends the abolition of specialized chambers in transitional justice within the courts and the suspension of the execution of sentences for cases transferred to the Truth and Dignity authority after the end of its mandate, according to a statement published by the PDL.
Among the suggestions put forward in this project, the creation of a commission guaranteeing the right of the State and the citizens to a global and exhaustive audit of the compensation paid and the creation of a database listing their beneficiaries.
The PDL group requested the priority examination of the project, in accordance with article 92 of the internal regulations of the parliament which stipulates that the Bureau of the Assembly may request the priority examination of a bill or proposed law. This request must be justified, and the commission is then required to prepare its report within a period not exceeding one week from the date of submission of the request for priority review.
