Pollution is increasingly impacting the environment and the health of the inhabitants of Oued Zarga (Beja governorate).
Activist Khoubaib Ayari condemned the lack of intervention by local authorities in one of Tunisia’s largest villages. The area likewise suffers from an absolute lack of sanitation, while a sum of 12 million dinars has been allocated for this purpose, the activist stated.
The wastewater then flows into the swamps and is consequently discharged into the Sidi Salem dam, he added.
It should be remarked that the Sidi Salem dam is the largest dam in Tunisia. It is located on the course of Oued Medjerda and supplies water to different regions of the country, including the capital Tunis.
