The Popular Current said it rejected the government’s choices on the draft state budget for 2021, warning of a social explosion.
The draft state budget for the financial year 2021, the main outlines of which are announced in a circular from the Prime Minister only aggravates the current crisis through the rise in the unemployment rate and the blocking of the career path of civil servants by depriving them of their right to performance bonuses and promotions, warned the party in a statement.
In addition, the popular current (not represented in parliament) denounced the government’s inaction in the face of worsening conditions of employees, who, he said, are now paying the heaviest price because of inefficient economic choices.
The party proposed as a solution to stop anarchic importing, rationalise purchases, suspend the repayment of foreign debt and introduce a tax on wealth, citing banks, insurance companies, telecommunications operators and supermarket chains as examples.
It also called for the abolition of Act No. 2016-35 of 25 April 2016, establishing the status of the Central Bank of Tunisia, and a return to the 1958 Act, stressing the need to cancel tax benefits granted to certain companies.
