Tunisia-PPDU condemns attempts to criminalise freedom of expression

The Party of Unified Democratic Patriots (PPDU) denounced trials intended to “criminalise freedom of expression and requests for demonstration movements and nonviolent protests for which the people have made major sacrifices.”
“The frequently urgent proposals for Tunisians to oppose against the deteriorating situation and the negative execution of all the authorities have been met with legal action,” the PPDU said.
The party quotes in this link “the case before the public prosecutor’s office, the proceedings brought by the police and the threats made by the ruling coalition parties.”
The PDPU stated in this regard that it was “shocked at the speed with which the justice system has dealt with certain cases while other cases sitting serious threats to the country’s security are being managed with incomprehensible slowness.”
“There is a risk of using the justice system to settle political scores,” the party warned.
While ensuring that it is not affected by “a deceptive political polarisation in which the parties do not show any difference in the political programme and the economic and social orientations,” the PPDU affirms “its adherence to all legitimate militant actions … for the achievement of popular sovereignty and social justice.
