Tunisia-Presidency of the republic issues explanations on fiscal arrangement

There was no question of confiscation of assets in President Kais Saied’s speech delivered at the National Security Council meeting on Tuesday, the Presidency said in a statement.

The Head of State recalled, in his speech, his proposal made in 2012 for a fiscal arrangement with persons involved in cases of financial corruption, with a view of reconciliation with the people, the same source stressed.

This proposal, which dates back more than eight years, consists of concluding an arrangement with persons involved in this type of cases. This is bearing in mind that fiscal arrangement is spelled out in several law articles.

The beneficiary delegations are ranked in descending order from the most disadvantaged to the least disadvantaged.

Each condemned person pledges to carry out projects claimed by the local people in each delegation (roads, hospitals, schools…), under the supervision of a regional committee in charge of audit and coordination.

The final arrangement becomes effective only after the completion of projects whose value corresponds to the amount of the penalties imposed, adds the Presidency of the Republic.
