Tunisia-President Kaïs Saïed: Narrow political calculations have entered courts

The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed received this Thursday, February 4, 2021, president of the Court of Auditors Néjib Ktari at Carthage presidential palace, the latter submitted to him the 32nd yearly report of the Court, in addition to the closing budget report of the ‘ the year 2018 status.

This meeting was an occasion to review the sentences and sanctions that may emerge from this type of report, in particular the one drawn up by the Court of Auditors regarding the 2019 elections. The Head of State stated: “I get your reports and regrettably many of your issued rulings are not implemented, either financially or penally. Thank you, as I thank all honest judges who are not scared to apply the law. We strive that all courses, like you, are courts of accounts and not courts of the settling of scores. Regrettably, narrow calculations have crawled into the courts. The judgments handed down have become “a kind of power-sharing”. We are for the law and its application. I regret the trespassing of the law, and it is essential to find ways to apply it ”.

The President of the Republic added that the courts need to stay free of political calculations. And to proceed by addressing the President of the Court of Auditors: “Your report on the last elections was historic, but sadly it remained without follow-up and without the slightest influence”.
