Tunisia-President Kais Saied offers condolences to family of Gilbert Naccache

President of the Republic Kais Saied travelled to the house of the late leftist activist and fervent human rights defender Gilbert Naccache in La Goulette to extend his condolences to his family. Gilbert Naccache died on December 26 in the French capital at the age of 81.

The President highlighted the characteristics of the late and talked of his activism in support of just national and humanitarian causes and his opposition to oppression. He further evoked the moments he shared and the deep discussions he had with Naccache, after the Revolution at his home and in cultural spaces. «With the death of Gilbert Naccache, Tunisia has lost one of its faithful militants. He had strong positions and was dedicated to his principles and to the homeland. History will long remember his name.»

The President, on Saturday, paid tribute to Naccache, maintaining that Tunisia lost one of its genuine activists, who “strongly believed in the principles of emancipation and justice and fought for them to the last breath.” Gilbert Naccache was buried in the Borgel cemetery in Tunis.

The funeral was attended by the Prime Minister, many members of the government, the Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union, members of the executive bureau of the union, as well as a number of political and civil society leaders and representatives of Palestine’s Embassy in Tunisia.
