Tunisia-President Kaïs Saïed: We are at war

President Kaïs Saïed called for a new vision to confront the Coronavirus pandemic.

During an emergency meeting held with military and security officials to review the health situation in the country, the Head of State emphasised that the national responsibility is not based on political estimates, competition or rivalry, but entails the union of efforts and measures to be taken in the upcoming period.

Mr Saied explained that Tunisia is placed 2nd in the world in terms of victims of the Coronavirus. “We are in a war, let’s be honest, the war has many phases, we lost one, for various reasons, but we will triumph! “, he declares.
“There were many offences that resulted in this situation, there are socio-economic aspects, international relationships that had to be taken into the record, there are also reasons relating to the culture of the people, however, the principal and clear reason of the ineffectiveness of these measures, is that the citizens have lost confidence, ”, he added.
The president of the republic offered the following resolutions:
  • Abolition of the general/targeted lockdown measure because it has socio-economic consequences.
  • Division of the national territory into sectors in descending order (from the sector most touched by the pandemic to the least affected)
  • Deployment of security forces, medical and paramedical staff(public and military sector) in all public and private health establishments in Tunisia.
  • Taking measures in deliberation with experts, depending on the development of the health situation

“We have to rely on our own means and we are capable of succeeding. Some actions were not taken on the basis of scientific recommendations, but to attend political interests, without the slightest concern for the health of Tunisians “.
