Tunisia-President Saied to Taboubi: There is no question of establishing dialogue with corrupt

The president of the republic Kais Saied welcomed  Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Noureddine Taboubi at Carthage presidential palace.

The meeting centred on the general situation in the country, especially the socio-economic situation and the current difficulties in several regions of the country.

«The Head of State repeated his position of principle that there is no question of dialogue with the corrupt”, reads a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.

There is no question of building a dialogue according to the formula that Tunisia has experienced in recent years, he stated, pointing out that «this dialogue needs to be part of a new vision that cuts with old perceptions, and is based on reacting to the actual demands of the people, far from any narrow political calculation”.

According to the same statement, Saied also asserted his adherence to legitimacy, and his attachment to meeting the demands of the Tunisian people, far from the chaos that some are trying to create in the country to take advantage of it”.

He stressed that “Tunisia is permanent ” and its public services must work according to an ordinary rhythm, adding that some attempt to interrupt their functioning, not in line with the demands of the Tunisian people, but quite the opposite”, according to the text of the statement.

In a statement made at the end of the meeting, Taboubi stated that the difficult circumstances the country is going through a call for the UGTT to offer initiatives alongside other political and civil forces.

In this connection, he emphasised “the capacity of the Presidency of the Republic, because of its distance from political negotiations, to unite Tunisians on the basis of principles and objectives”, according to the same source.

In this sense, Taboubi said he was “confident in everyone’s ability to make the national interest prevail to the detriment of narrow partisan interests”, expressing the hope to see, without delay, in-depth and responsible dialogues that give hope to the Tunisian people.
