Tunisia-Presidential: ISIE formalizes conditions, many candidates will fall from very high

The Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) published a press release this Tuesday, April 23, to set in stone the criteria that permit people to participate in the presidential race. At the end of the meeting of the Council of the Authority, on the same day, the following information was made public:

The ISIE specifies that Order No. 2014-18, which governs the regulations and procedures for candidacy for the presidential elections, was amended and supplemented by Order No. 2019-18 to comply with the Constitution and the law. electoral. These amendments link to conditions such as age, nationality, civil and political rights as well as legal impediments…

It is stated that candidates are now obliged to attach to their files a copy of their criminal record (Bulletin No. 3, commonly known as B3).

Similarly, the Council of the ISIE reported that “the official choice of the date of the presidential election will be made by decree to convene the voters within the legal deadlines, following the provisions of article 101 – newly introduced – of the law electoral“…

The article in question notes that “voters will be summoned by presidential decree, at least three months before polling day for legislative, regional, municipal and presidential elections, and at least two months for referendums”.
