Tunisia-“Rebels” honored at TGM Gallery [Photos+Video]

The new TGM Gallery cultural space inaugurated 3 months ago in the heart of La Marsa opened its doors today to host the “Rebels” exhibition which was adorned with a series of revolutionary, charming and breathtaking paintings. Diverse masterpieces with acrylic on wood, on canvas, painting on wood, calligrams on paper with India ink and others were displayed to celebrate 8 Tunisian artists who built themselves by resisting their elders, without however ever denying them.

The rebels: Mohamed Seihili, Nejib Belkhodja, Habib Bouabana, Nja Mahdaoui, Rafik el Kamel, Gouider Triki, Abderrazek Sahli and Faouzi Chtioui abandoned the narrative dimension of their art to uncover its form and colour. Divided by artistic techniques, they came together through painting and a love for art thanks to TGM gallery, to seek the quest for the identity of Tunisian art and its rooting in one of the outstanding pictorial art movements of the 60s and 70s.

Recalling that the TGM Gallery formerly introduced the exhibition of the School of Tunis, the artistic director of TGM Gallery Alya Hamza confirmed to Tunisie Numérique that the cultural centre was commemorated today by the presence of those who opposed to the art school in question. “

TGM Gallery aims to make exhibitions that effectively present the main movements of Tunisian painting through ensemble compositions. This time, we have decided to focus on those who have refused form in favour of colour, material, abstract, calligraphy and architecture in return,” states Alya Hamza. Other exhibitions, other meetings and other tributes will follow…
