Tunisia – Retired soldiers appeal “last chance” to Kaïs Saïed

A group of retired soldiers, led by the retired Colonel Major, Mokhtar Ben Nasr, addressed a letter to the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, calling on him to reason and to seize the last chance to save the nation in crumbling.

These soldiers started by drawing an alarming view of the political, economic and social situation in which the country has reached, and emphasised the absolute obligation of all Tunisians to coexist and to avoid killing each other.

In an effort to save the country, these soldiers are proposing a set of actions to be taken immediately, since the situation cannot continue.

They proposed to Kaïs Saïed to resume discussion and dialogue with the other presidents and to convene them around a table. They additionally proposed to stop with direct effect all manifestations of animosity and aggressiveness towards others and to delay all political disagreements for later, once the country has recovered.

These soldiers proposed to turn the page of disputes and to resume dialogue, for the good of the Nation, starting with the swearing-in of the ministers who have been voted by the parliment, except, perhaps for those who have suspicions of embezzlement.

They recommend an urgent meeting of the National Security Council, in the attendance of the three presidents and the presidents of national organizations, to decide on the modalities of starting a real national dialogue.

This letter was signed by: Retired Admiral Mohamed Meddeb, President of the alumni of the General Staff School, Bechir Majdoub, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, Boubaker Ben Kraïem, Retired Colonel Ali Sallemi Retired Colonel Major Mokhtar Ben Nasr Retired Colonel Major Souheil Chmengui.
