Tunisia-Road accidents: 1,185 deaths since start of year

According to the latest data from the National Road Traffic Observatory, there have been 5,525 registered road accidents from the start of the year until December 28. These accidents resulted in 1,185 casualties and 7,586 wounds. Although the number of accidents has dropped by 2.06% compared to the same period last year, there is a notable increase in fatalities by 14.71%.

The governorate of Tunis leads in the number of traffic accidents with 875, causing 100 deaths and 1,114 injuries. Mahdia follows with 446 accidents with 53 deaths and 599 injuries, while Kébili has the lowest number with 42 accidents causing 9 deaths and 61 injuries.

The data, published on the Observatory’s official website, stresses that forgetfulness and lack of attention are the primary factors contributing to road accidents, representing 40.16% of incidents. Speed is the second significant factor at 16.18%, followed by non-compliance with priorities and various other factors in different proportions.
