President of the Republic, Kais Saied, this afternoon, Friday, April 12, 2024, met at the Carthage Palace, with Ms Sarra Zaafarani Zanzri, Minister of Equipment and Housing and interim minister of Transport. The meeting revolved around several infrastructure-related projects, whether nearing completion or on which work will begin soon.
The Head of State gave his instructions on the necessity to speed up the implementation of multiple projects which have not been launched because of a legislative framework which is no longer suitable or because of reasons which arise to disrupt or delay their achievement.
Among the projects examined was the restoration of the El Menzah Olympic Stadium, as part of cooperation between the Tunisian Republic and the People’s Republic of China. The Head of State called for comprehensive rehabilitation work on the El Menzah Sports City.
The President of the Republic clarified that neglecting these sports facilities for a long period was unacceptable and that no maintenance work had been carried out for more than a decade. As is the case for the Belvédère municipal swimming pool and other facilities, the goal is to neglect them in anticipation of their loss, or even their seizure, according to methods known to the Tunisian people.
During this meeting, the project to achieve the road linking Majel Bel Abbes and Umm Al-Qassab was also discussed after the completion of the tender procedures.
In the field of transport, the President of the Republic urged the need to make as many public means of transport available to citizens as possible to put an end to their daily suffering in transport.
