Tunisia-Saïed examines ways to save Tunisian Sugar Company

President of the Republic Kais Saïed emphasized the significance of urgent measures to rescue the Tunisian Sugar Company. He called for a program to end its fragmentation in terms of levels of control and relationships, while working in partnership with other businesses, including factories and shipping.

During a meeting at Carthage Palace, with the Minister of Commerce, Kalthoum Ben Rejeb, and the President and CEO of the Tunisian Sugar Company, Mohamed Bahri Gabsi, the President of the Republic examined the causes leading to this situation, in particular, the sale, in the early 1990s, of public goods for the profit of people, “so-called for their modernization and upgrading,” when it was only a question of interest, according to the head of the State.

“These people who are today being indicted today by the courts for similar cases still hope to retain the privileges that they have unjustly acquired,” he said.

The President of the Republic emphasized once again that the State will not neglect public institutions and facilities but rather will strive to reform them and eliminate all the reasons that led to this situation in which they deteriorated and to hold accountable all those who worked to bankrupt them.

On another level, the President of the Republic stressed the need for harmony between all parties concerned to rescue the Tunisian Sugar Company because the State has a single policy, and all efforts must be integrated in the same direction.
