Tunisia-Sami Tahri: the UGTT will have to participate in negotiations with the IMF

The Deputy Secretary-General of the UGTT, Sami Tahri, expressed, during his speech this Thursday, March 10, 2022, on Attessia TV, that the UGTT will have to partake in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). “We have already drafted this to the government and insisted on the fact that the UGTT must have a national, economic and social role and this is nothing new. If there is effective dialogue, it will have to bring together all the components including the social, political and economic,” he said.

Sami Tahri likewise specified that a meeting is planned between the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, and the new executive office of the tUGTT. “The President contacted the Secretary-General and the discussion concentrated in particular on the economic and social situation of the nation. They agreed on a meeting, the date of which has not yet been set,” said Sami Tahri, adding that this discussion will be a chance to deepen the conversation on the current crisis and on the solutions that could be envisaged. “For the UGTT, the priority issues are as much political as economic and social because the three are inseparable,” he finished.
