Tunisia-Samir Cheffi: 1st meeting of the national dialogue initiative in the coming days

UGTT Deputy General Secretary Sami Cheffi announced the date of the first meeting on the national dialogue initiative started by the Tunisian General Labour Union has not yet been decided.

Speaking to  Jawhara FM, Cheffi said that the meeting will, though, take place in the coming days, only after the end of the New Year’s holidays. It will bring together two delegations, the first representing the Presidency of the Republic and the second, the UGTT, comprising both members of the executive board and experts.

He revealed that during this meeting, modalities of dialogue will be presented without the content of the initiative being altered, adding that the issue of youth participation proposed by the President of the Republic will be reviewed in order to find a formula for listening to a significant slice of society.

He added that the topic of whether the government will stay or not is not on the agenda of the initiative, which alternately proposes to evaluate the conditions and trends on which the last phase was based in relation to pending economic, social and political issues.

The issue of amending the electoral law will also be discussed, he said.
