Tunisia-SAMU has received 96 thousand calls in August

The emergency medical services (SAMU) had received 96,000 calls last August compared to 56,000 in July 2020, Head of the SAMU Mounir Daghfous said on Sunday.

This increase had not reached the average of 15,000 calls per day recorded between March 15 and end of April 2020, he added to TAP.

He indicated that the SAMU services had ensured between last August and mid-September 1,682 interventions, that is an average of 37 interventions per day against 2,217 between March 15 and end of April, i.e. an average of 49 interventions a day, knowing that the normal average of interventions before the COVID-19 pandemic had been between 10 and 15 interventions a day.

The accommodation capacity of COVID-19 patients in the hospitals during the coming days depends on the respect of the health protocol by the citizens and the adoption of barrier gestures, he added.

In this vein, the official called on Tunisians not to panic and to continue living normally, while respecting the hygiene measures and social distancing, pointing out that the country is currently facing a difficult economic situation that requires the mobilisation of all efforts.
