Continued investments in the field of seawater desalination will in the short term supply 870,000 cubic meters per day, the equivalent of the daily consumption of drinking water in the Grand Tunis region, according to Ahmed Soula, director of the National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE).
In a statement to the Arabic-speaking daily Achourouk published this Friday, February 16, 2024, the director general of SONEDE revealed that the Zarat desalination station, in the governorate of Gabès, will enter service in the forthcoming days with a production capacity of 50,000 cubic meters, which could be doubled in a second stage to reach 100,000 cubic meters per day.
