Tunisia-Americans press Saïed to reestablish parliament

The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed received this Saturday evening, a delegation from the U.S senate. If the page of the presidency was limited to the formulas of diplomatic use to declare that the president reassured his guests to the constitutionality of his action and that the interview dealt with bilateral relations, on the American side, there is had a whole different story.

After a meeting that was held at Carthage place between president Kais Saied and a delegation from U.S Senate. Senator Chris Murphy said that he made clear that the United States’ only interest is in protecting and advancing a healthy democracy and economy for Tunisians.

He tweeted “I just finished meeting with Tunisian President Kais Saied at Carthage Palace. Here’s my quick readout: 1/ I urged a prompt return to the democratic path and a swift end to the emergency state”.

‘2/ I made clear that the United States’ only interest is in protecting and advancing a healthy democracy and economy for Tunisians. We favor no party over another and we have zero interest in pushing one reform agenda over another. Those questions are for Tunisians to decide”.

“3/ I assured him that the United States would continue to support a Tunisian democracy that responds to the needs of the Tunisian people and protects civil liberties and human rights”,adds the same source.
