Tunisia-Sfax: Possible contamination by cholera [video]

Tunisie Numérique correspondent in Sfax reported that the Minister of the Environment, Leila Chikhaoui, today met with representatives of civil society in Sfax, to attempt to find answers to the environmental crisis in the region.

Indeed, after the shut down of the “El Gonna” landfill in Aguerb, the municipal authorities resorted (briefly) to the use of another landfill located near the beach, which generated odours and an accumulatio of unbearable waste.

The speakers indicated that the question does not affect only the governorate of Sfax, but more the health of all Tunisian citizens since “specialists have expressed extreme probabilities for the appearance of certain contaminations by cholera”. They emphasised that solutions must be found “immediately”, proposing, among other things, the provisional establishment of “controlled landfills” so that the problem does not increase any further, before setting up a committee that will take charge of the file.
