Several primary school teachers, graduates of education sciences from the class of 2023, held a sit-in in front of the headquarters of the Regional Delegation for Education, Sfax 1. During the sit-in, they demanded payment of their wages, which had been due from the Ministry of National Education for 8 months.
Several demonstrators told TAP that because their financial arrears have not been paid for 8 months, they have become a burden for their families. Their families have begun spending on their transport costs and other costs, while they had hoped, upon their assignment in September 2023, that they would become a source of income for their family.
They underlined that they would continue to boycott classes until their wages, which the ministry had pledged them since last January, were paid, according to what they stated.
During his meeting with the demonstrators, the director of primary education at the Education Delegation of Sfax 1, Sami Sahloul, disclosed that the file for disbursement of salaries of primary teachers with degrees in education sciences at the level of the Sfax 1 Regional Delegation for Education is finished and the amounts will be disbursed in the current week, according to its confirmation.
He emphasised that “the obstacle that happened to the disbursement of financial contributions from primary school teachers with education science degrees affiliated to the education delegations of Sfax 1 and Sfax 2, is due to administrative and logistical reasons, as well as ‘to a delay in submitting files by the individuals concerned.’
